An ambulance has been dispatched to the Waynesville Career Center at approximately 3:05 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024, to treat an adult with a medical condition. The adult will decide what, if any, further medical treatment is necessary. #wayschools

Free meals on Fridays during summer school
for all children ages birth to 18
OPAA! and Waynesville R-VI Schools are partnering to provide free meals through a drive-through service each Friday during Summer School at Waynesville High School and Wood Elementary.
All children in the community ages birth to 18 are eligible to receive the meals; however, families must register in advance to receive the meals by going to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdH-1wLysZ3zxKiBnm65FgPrfL7XUljE-GCD7p-_Y-VnVrOWQ/viewform and filling out the brief form.

Ā· The meals will be available on the following Fridays: May 31, June 7, 14 and 21. Please indicate on the form which Fridays you will be available to pick up the meals.
Ā· The WHS drive-through will be open from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m.
Ā· The Wood Elementary drive-through will be open from 2:10 to 3:10 p.m.
Ā· Each bag will contain two breakfasts and two lunches for each child who has registered through the brief Google form at link above.
Ā· A family may only go to one site and must indicate on the form whether they will pick up the meals at the high school or elementary school.

a. No. All children ages birth to 18 are eligible.

a. No. This program is open to the community.
3. Do I have to fill out the form each week?
a. No. Please indicate on the form which Fridays you will be picking up the meals.
4. How is this program being funded and why is it being offered?
a. The Federal Government is funding this program and OPAA! volunteered to participate so that families in our community could receive the meals. Children are most hungry during the summer months when regular school is not in session and OPAA! is partnering with Waynesville R-VI schools to help ensure that children have food on the weekends during summer school.


Waynesville JROTC Drill Team recognized for finishing 3rd in Nation
The Waynesville JROTC Drill Team was recognized during the May 20, 2024, Waynesville R-VI Board of Education meeting for finishing 3rd in the Nation and being awarded the Norwich Cup.
The team finished 3rd overall at the U.S. Army Cadet Command Rocky Mountain Drill Nationals among a field of more than 50 teams on April 20 in Denver, Colo.

Waynesville Career Center students who took 1st place at State were recognized during the May 20, 2024, Waynesville R-VI Board of Education meeting.
Thirteen WCC students earned gold at the Missouri SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference that was held April 4-6, and will compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta in June.

Students and their parents from the Waynesville Career Center culinary arts program hosted an appreciation dinner for Chef Jon Dye, the program's instructor, on May 15, 2024. Superintendent Hilary Bales spoke during the event that was organized entirely by parents and through community support. #wayschools



The annual district elementary track meet for 4th and 5th graders was held on May 10 and the Waynesville Sixth Grade Centerās track meet was held May 14.
"I am proud of all of the students who qualified for the district meet," said Mike Rawlings, head track and field coach. "They had good times and results for their ages and I am grateful for our elementary coaches who help prepare our young athletes. We have a great program and it all begins at the elementary level."

Due to the forecasted weather this afternoon, the following schedule changes have been made:
- There will be no afterschool activities this afternoon, which includes:
o There will be no sports practices for grades 6-12.
o There will be no WIN this evening grades 6-12.
o Club Tiger will not be held this afternoon.
o Elementary soccer camp for this evening will not be held.
o JV/V Baseball vs. Bolivar has been canceled.
o C Team Baseball at Bolivar has been canceled.
As of now (12:15 p.m.), the Community Salute to Service scheduled for 6 p.m. this evening will be held as scheduled at Waynesville High School Gym.
With the potential for severe weather later today, here are a few reminders regarding storms:
The safety of our students is our priority. All buildings have designated areas and procedures for students and staff during a tornado warning. Our staff and students have practiced these procedures and are familiar with them.
If a severe weather event occurs at dismissal time, we will keep the students in the building (as we have in the past) until we deem it safe to dismiss students. Should this occur, we will keep you informed via email, text and Facebook.
If you feel anxious about the storm and want to pick up your child early, please do so at least one hour prior to dismissal.

The districtās Wellness Committee created a fun day of activities for staff members to participate in, including a wiffle ball tournament, painting and a corn hole tournament on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
The wiffle ball tournament results are as follows:

Coming forward one at a time, each Parker Preschool student drew out the name of a student who will replace them at Parker Educational Center for the 2024-25 school year. The drawing for the 40 preschool openings was held on April 25 at the center. Parents will be notified by May 3 if their childās name was drawn and/or their exact spot on the waitlist.
Students who are selected to attend through the random drawing will:
Ā· participate in a screening in June
Ā· need to complete the enrollment process with the Waynesville R-VI School District #wayschools








The Practical Nursing Program at Waynesville Career Center celebrated its 50th Anniversary with an open house on April 18, 2024.
Current students greeted guests and offered tours of the classrooms and labs. Guests were also invited to view the displays and scrapbooks with pictures and memories of the past 50 years.
The event was well attended by faculty, past and present students, directors and administration. Many of the past students shared information about their experiences, acknowledging how vital the course was in preparing them for their future.
The programās staff members would like to extend their thanks to Donna Groves and her advertising design students, WCC custodians, current students, and Jon Dye and his culinary arts students who prepared the food, WCC Director Sam Callis, Assistant Director Robert Crabtree, Superintendent Hilary Bales, as well as all other faculty members in attendance.

Tiger Festival of Nations has been moved inside and will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. today. As a reminder the art show is also being held this evening from 4 to 7 pm. The entrance to both events will be located on the 9th Grade Center side of the high school.


Waynesville R-VI students and staff helped with the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Best Sapper Competition on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Waynesville City Park, including:
Ā· Waynesville Middle School Advanced Choir students sang the National Anthem under the direction of Dustin Griffin
Ā· Waynesville High School art students āchalked the walkā with chalk drawings throughout the venue under the direction of Sarah Luttrell.
Ā· Selected works by Waynesville R-VI elementary, middle and high school students that were created for the Month of the Military Child were on display at the event. The artwork was created under the direction of district art teachers.
Ā· Superintendent Hilary Bales and Dr. Jason Whitt, WHS principal, showed their support for the event and visited with military officials and WHS graduates and teachers.
In addition, Waynesville Career Center culinary art students prepared and served a meal under the direction of Jon Dye to the Sapper Association at the St. Robert Community Center earlier in the week.
