Inclement Weather Information

Inclement Weather Options

In the event of winter weather conditions, transportation personnel begin checking roads at 3:30 a.m. and when possible, the decision is made by 5 a.m. Information regarding weather conditions is sent to local radio stations, KY3, Channel 12 and a message is sent to parents via either School Messenger and/or Remind. The information will also be posted on the district’s website and on the district’s Facebook page.  Waynesville R-VI School District has multiple options in the event of winter weather conditions:

  1. School will be in session. No changes. (Please note that the district does not typically make announcements that school is in session. If there is no announcement, then school is in session.)

  2. Run buses on snow routes.  If we run snow routes in the morning, we will run them in the afternoon as well.

  3. Delayed start. All buses will run two hours late and all schools will open two hours late when it is announced that there will be delayed start.

  4. Early dismissal.  An announcement will be made if school is to be dismissed early. Please note there are times when the district is advised to remain in session to allow time for roads to be treated.

  5. AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) days will occur if the weather event causes school to be cancelled for more than one day in a row. AMI days begin on the second consecutive snow day and will continue for each snow day that follows.

Snow Routes

If the main roads are clear, and secondary roads remain impassable, the district may decide to have school, but buses will run snow routes instead of their normal daily route. Snow routes are designed to keep buses on clear safe roads, which means the location of your student's bus stop may be changed to a different location these days. Snow routes can be found using the Ride 360 App. To access the app, go to the Waynesville R-VI School District Homepage, select the option Parents/Students, then choose Snow Routes from the directory.
