Video Production

 

The Video Production program at Waynesville Career Center is a 2-year program of study. Video Production I is available to Waynesville High School and area school students in grades 11-12. Video Production II is available to Waynesville High School and area school students in grade 12 who have successfully completed Video Production I.

 

Video Production I (Dual Credit)

Format: AM 3-hour block 2nd-4th hour. PM 3-hour block 5th-7th hour.

Admission: Open to grades 11-12 & adults.

Pre-requisite: A cumulative non-weighted high school GPA of 3.0 or above is recommended.

Dual Credit: Video Production I students have the opportunity to earn college credit through the University of Central Missouri. The credit applies towards UCM’s Bachelor of Science in Digital Media Production degree. Dual credit is transferable to any 2 or 4-year public college in Missouri. Most private colleges in Missouri and out-of-state colleges will also recognize the credit. Students who complete both years of Video Production can earn up to 6 hours of credit. A high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is recommended for admission into UCM’s dual credit program. A cumulative GPA of 2.55 or higher is required.

Articulated Credit: Video Production I students are eligible to earn articulated credit through the Electronic Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC). Video Production I articulates to EMP-102 Introduction to Electronic Media Production. Video Production I students must earn a letter grade of a B or higher to receive the credit. The average of both semester grades will be utilized to determine eligibility. Articulated credit is offered at no cost to students. Students must enroll at OTC upon graduation for the credit to be applied.

Class Synopsis: Video Production I is the first-year course of the two-year Video Production program offered at WCC. In this class, you learn how to make your own videos and movies using the latest professional tools and technology. Students learn the same Adobe software used to make Hollywood films including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects. The course covers the entire creative process from brainstorming and writing to recording audio and video clips and then using editing software to finish your story. Students learn to create graphics, animation, audio mixes, and more while working on projects including commercials, news reports, and short films.

Students also learn about live television production as your work on the Channel 12 live TV crew televising sporting events that air on local cable TV and stream online. Students in Video Production I produce videos for TigerTV News, our school newscast.

Video Production II (Dual Credit) 

Format: AM 3-hour block 2nd-4th hour. PM 3-hour block 5th-7th hour.

Admission: Open to grade 12 only & adults.

Pre-requisite: Completion of Video Production I with a letter grade of C or higher and instructor recommendation. A cumulative non-weighted high school GPA of 3.0 or above is recommended.

Class Synopsis: Video Production II is the second-year course of the two-year Video Production program offered at WCC. Students who enroll in Video Production II are high school seniors who have earned a C or higher in Video Production I. Students in Video Production II are strongly considering continuing their education in the field of video, film, or television or plan to enter the workforce after graduation. In Video Production II, you build upon, enhance, and refine the skills you learned in Video Production I. Students learn more about animation and special effects while focusing more intently on creating film or news content. Students in Video Production II create a portfolio of projects they can use to show colleges or employers. Video Production II students can graduate high school as Adobe Certified Associates in Digital Video Communication.
