Computer Hardware & Networking, covers the fundamentals of computer hardware and software as well as advanced concepts such as networking, security and the responsibilities of an IT professional. Students who complete this course will understand the elements and functions of hardware devices, techniques used in PC repair, the use of software and an overview of operating systems, and how computers communicate and are grouped to form networks. Students will also implement networking wiring infrastructure, network switching, Voice over IP, and server management.
Students in Computer Hardware & Networking will:

Course Expectations
Course outline:
Describe a personal computer system’s hardware and software components.
Demonstrate safe lab procedures and proper tool use when repairing hardware and building networks.
Assemble a desktop computer from compatible components and upgrade a computer system to meet end user requirements.
Explain the purpose of and basic rules of preventive maintenance and the troubleshooting process.
Install, upgrade, navigate and troubleshoot various operating systems.
Describe, create and maintain a network.
Describe how laptops are constructed, their basic configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Describe operating systems, basic configuration, maintenance, security and repair for mobile devices.
Demonstrate all procedures required for printers.
Explain importance of security, describe procedures, and perform security measures.
Describe the communication and related skills needed by an IT professional.
Perform advanced troubleshooting procedures on computers, operating systems, laptops, printers, network and security.
Assess customer needs, analyze possible configurations, and provide solutions or recommendations for hardware, operating systems, networking, and security.
** In addition to developing the technical skills required for entering the Information Technology Industry, you will also work to develop and refine the soft skills such as team building and customer service that you will need to succeed in an IT position.
