AMI Days (Virtual/Online Learning)
Inclement weather (snow day): On inclement weather (snow) day, there will be no school in person; however, school will be in session using an Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI online) in the morning. Students in grades K-12 and Parker Preschool will be online from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Williams AM classes will be online from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. and Williams PM classes will be online from 10:15 a.m. to noon. Instructions for helping students log on at home will be sent by your child’s teacher(s) or school.
Traditional Inclement Weather Information
If it’s snowing, will there be school?
It depends! The Waynesville R-VI School District has multiple options in the event of winter weather conditions, including:
School will be in session. No changes. (We typically do not make announcements that school will be in session. If there is no announcement, then school is in session.)
Run buses on snow routes. If we run snow routes in the morning, we will run snow routes in the afternoon as well. See Transportation for snow route information about where stops are located. Due to the different types of roads in our district and the routing of certain school buses, the “snow route” may be the usual route with no changes.
Delayed start. When a delayed start is announced, all schools will begin 2 hours later than usual. All buses will run 2 hours late (so if your bus pick up time is 6:30 a.m., your bus pick up time will be 8:30 a.m.). If a delayed start occurs on a Wednesday, the delayed start is two hours later than the delayed start time on a Wednesday when there is a delayed start. For example, if school would normally start at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, school will begin at 11 a.m. Delayed start has no impact on dismissal times. On delayed start days, school is dismissed at the regular time.
Early dismissal. An announcement will be made if school is to be dismissed early. The time varies.
Frequently Asked Questions
1) How are decisions made regarding whether or not we will be in session?
a. The Waynesville R-VI School District typically makes the decision to have school or not have school in the morning to see if the predicted weather actually arrived and/or to see how much progress road crews have made while working through the night. Transportation personnel usually begin checking roads at 3:30 a.m. and when possible, the decision is made by 5 a.m.
2) If school is cancelled, where will the information be posted and/or available?
A phone call will go to families
A Remind text will be sent to families
Local radio stations will be notified
Tiger TV (Channel 12) and television station KY3 will be notified
A post will appear on the Waynesville R-VI School District’s Facebook page
A post will appear on each of the school’s websites
3) Is it possible that I will receive a phone call and a text?
a. Yes. We utilize two separate systems to ensure you receive at least one of the messages.
4) If it starts to snow or ice, why don’t you immediately dismiss school?
a. There are times when the district is advised to keep students safe at school and allow time for crews to treat the roads.
5) Terrible weather is predicted and other schools around have announced they are closing for the next day. Why haven’t we?
a. The local weather is very unpredictable, even with sophisticated satellite systems. If at all possible, we would like our students to be in school where they will continue learning.
6) Other schools are out. Why are we still going to school?
a. Each school district’s road conditions are unique; more rural districts typically announce the night before that there will be no school because of their pre-existing road conditions. We know where our most challenging spots are located and an individual goes out and drives the routes to see if we can go to school, if we need to use snow routes, if we need a delayed start or if we need to close school.
7) The windchill is expected to be below zero and you plan to have school?
a. Yes, below freezing temperatures occur in this area, which puts the windchill below zero at times. If your child or a child you know of is in need of a coat or shoes, please contact your school nurse to see if any of these items are available.

In the event of a delayed start (two-hours) due to inclement weather, the following schedule applies:
