PBS: Positive Behavior Support

WHAT IS SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT?

PBS is a system for recognizing positive contributions of individuals.  It provides an environment that encourages self-discipline by rewarding those who make a conscious choice to follow the universals of the school.

***********************

WHAT ARE THE UNIVERSALS?

Wood Elementary has adopted three school-wide universals:

         Be Respectful

         Be Responsible

         Be Safe

A student's actions should follow these universals throughout the school day.

***********************

WHAT IS GIVE ME FIVE?

Give Me Five is how someone respectfully asks for attention at Wood Elementary.  It is simply a quiet hand raised in the air.  When this signal is given, everyone joins in by giving the person full attention and raising a quiet hand.

***********************

WHAT ARE THE HALLWAY RULES?

Wood Elementary has adopted three hallway rules:

         Short

         Straight

         Silent

These rules are based on our universals.

***********************

WHAT IS KHFOOTY?

KHFOOTY is an acronym for

Keep Hands, Feet, & Other Objects To Yourself.

It is in place as a reminder to respect others by giving them personal space.

***********************

WHAT IS TAPS TIME?

TAPS is an acronym for

Total Absolute Positive Silence.

TAPS time starts at 8:20 during normal school days and at 9:00 on delayed start days.  During that time, students are expected to be in their seats working silently on their morning work.  The hallways are to be free from noise from students, teachers, and parents so the school day can begin.

***********************

WHAT IS A TIGER BUCK?

A Tiger Buck is a token of appreciation for following the universals.  A student can earn a Tiger Buck from any staff member.  Students collect the Tiger Bucks to participate in a weekly prize drawing during lunchtime.

WIN WIN ASSEMBLY

You are invited to our Wednesday Win Win Assembly where we celebrate student achievement and recognize good character.  We acknowledge birthdays, Star Awards, and Honor Roll Students.  Refer to your child's school newsletter for the time and location, or give us a call.

***********************

ARE THERE CONSEQUENCES?

There are consequences for students who choose not to follow our school-wide universals.  They include a sequence of actions taken to maintain a productive learning environment.  At first, the teacher will redirect the child and encourage him or her to correct the behavior.  If expectations are not met: principal, counselor, and parent contact will be made to help in the matter.  For more detailed steps of the school's action plan, please refer to the Wood Elementary Handbook.
