During the beginning of the school year, it is very important that parents communicate with the school nurse on any medical issues that may come into play during the school year. Please be sure that I am aware of allergies to food and medicine as well as if your child takes any medications.
If your child needs to keep medicine at school, please remember that it must be in original container with prescription on it for less than 10 days of use, such as antibiotics. Medicine requiring daily or as needed dose throughout the year require a Medication form completed by a doctor, such as inhalers or epi-pens.
Please remember that school settings spread illness quickly due to so many bodies in confined spaces. If your child is sick, please keep them home. School policy states that a child must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication to return.
Children need adequate rest and nutrition to perform at their optimum level. Please make sure they have plenty of sleep and breakfast before classes start.
Encourage your child to have good hygiene; washing hands and coughing and sneezing into their elbow are two of the easiest ways to keep them well.
