What is a Counselor?

Elementary Counselors provide a unique service to children.  There are times when children have problems or concerns which may require more specialized knowledge and time than is available in the regular classroom environment.  The counselor is the person in school to lend that assistance in helping the child adjust to life and school in general.  My responsibilities include meeting new students, weekly classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling (deployments, divorce, anger management, behavior, grief, friendship, self esteem),individual counseling, Red Ribbon Week Coordinator (Drug Free), Testing Coordinator (MAP-Missouri Assessment Program, Lollipop Screening-Kindergarten, Sages) Field Day Coordinator.
