Waynesville Middle School Spanish course descriptions:
In 7th grade Spanish, emphasis is placed on listening, speaking and understanding the target language. Vocabulary acquisition is stressed and some memorization is required. The vocabulary units that we cover will be: greetings, numbers, days and months (with weather terms), classroom objects, body parts, house and furniture, and colors. Culture, traditions and customs of Spanish speaking countries are studied. This is a nine-week class.
In Spanish 8, emphasis is placed on listening, speaking and understanding the target language. Vocabulary acquisition is stressed and memorization is required. The vocabulary becomes the building blocks for the language and is constantly reviewed. Correct pronunciation is taught and practiced through oral exercises. Grammar is presented and practiced through written and oral exercises and reading. Culture, traditions and customs of Spanish speaking countries are studied. This is a semester class.
Spanish 1 is a year-long class for 8th grade only. Emphasis is placed on listening, speaking, writing and understanding the Spanish language. Vocabulary acquisition is stressed and memorization is required. This is a high school level class and if students pass the class, they will be able to take Spanish II when they enter high school. This is a faster moving class, and students will have more homework than the regular 8th grade class.
Academic Assistance for both 7th and 8th grades is on Thursday's from 2:45-3:45 PM. Students who stay for academic assistance will receive full credit for missing or incomplete assignments. They may also redo test or quizzes. The two grades will be averaged.
Spanish Club is for all students at WMDS and meets Wednesdays after school until 4:00 PM. Mrs. Lozano is also a sponsor for Spanish Club and we meet in her room (#95).
