Mrs. Kathy Brown's Home Page
Welcome to 7th grade language arts. A little about myself. First I have been married for 23 years and have 2 daughters and 8 international exchange students from 5 five different countries. (Japan, Germany, Norway, Ukraine, Czech Republic, and Slovakia). I will be starting my 9th year of teaching, with 8 of those years here in the Waynesville School District.
My goal as a teacher is to help my students improve their reading and written language skills. The students will learn how to write paragraphs using different styles and elements. They will also be encouraged to read beyond what they would normally do outside the classroom. I want my students to reach for the stars and be successful doing it.
Seventh Grade Language Arts is a course emphasizing all aspects of literacy including reading and writing. For reading we will be using the Reading Counts program, which includes SRI testing. A variety of reading strategies will be emphasized to improve reading comprehension. Students will be required to read at least 3 to 5 books (that met certain requirements) each quarter. Students will improve their writing skills by doing a variety of writing assignments including journal writing, paragraph writing, essay writing, poetry, and short stories. The class will address the Missouri Department of Educations’ Grade Level Expectations and help prepare students for the state testing.
