7th Grade Science

Welcome to my page!  I have the pleasure of teaching 7th Grade Science at WMDS.  I am looking forward to a fantastic year here at WMDS!

This year, we will be covering a number of subjects in Life Science.  Here is a list of what we will get covered:

Chapter 1

  • What are the steps of scientific inquiry?
  • How does scientific inquiry rely upon gathering evidence from qualitative and quantitative observations
  • How does scientific inquiry rely upon gathering evidence from qualitative and quantitative observations

Chapter 2 Living Things

  • What are the structures and the functions of the structures inside prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells?
  • What are the structures and the functions of the structures inside prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells?

Chapter 3 Cell Processes and Energy

  • Which compounds are important in cells?
  • Explain how cells function in different environments?
  • Explain the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration?

Chapter 4 Genetics: The Science of Heredity

  • What were the results of Mendel’s crosses?
  • What controls the inheritance of traits in organisms?
  • What is probability, genotype, phenotype and codominance?
  • What role do chromosomes play in inheritance?
  • What events occur during  meiosis?
  • What is the relationship between chromosomes and genes?
  • What forms the genetic code, produces proteins and how can mutations affect these processes?

Chapter 5 Modern Genetics; Sect 1 & 3

  • What are some patterns of human inheritance and what effect can the environment have on those patterns?
  • What are three ways of producing organisms with desired traits?

Chapter 6 Changes Over Time

  • What is natural selection?
  • How do fossils explain natural selection?

Chapter 13 Animal Behavior

  • How and why migration is tracked
  • Different patterns of animal behavior.

Chapter 21 Populations and Communities

  • How do living things interact with each other and the physical properties an ecosystem?
  • How and why do ecosystems change over time?
  • How do living things interact with each other and the physical properties an ecosystem?
  • How and why do ecosystems change over time?

Ch 22 Ecosystems and Biomes

  • How does energy flow through and ecosystem?
  • How does matter move through the water, carbon, and nitrogen cycles?
  • Describe “biogeography”?
  • What are the various biomes on earth?

Ch 23 Living Resources

  • What are the current environmental issues?

How do environmental issues effect biodiversity
