Required Book: The American Republic To 1877

Student Supplies: Paper, pen/pencil, colored pencils, spiral notebook

Course Description:  The course is designed to study American history from the creation of the United States Constitution through the Reconstruction period.

Course Goals and Objectives:  The course is designed to allow students to develop a better, more thorough understanding of the struggles our nation has gone through to develop into the country we know today. Students will learn to think critically, write factual information, and work independently and cooperatively.

Grades are based on designated assignments, which may include maps, individual and group projects, daily bell ringers, activity sheets, questions, and tests.

Bell Ringers: Students are expected to complete daily bell ringers, which usually consist of answering questions that review material that has already been covered in class. Bell ringer questions are worth 5 points each day.

Planners: Planners will be filled out at the beginning of class every Monday.  Students are expected to have their planners with them at all times.

Homework: Students are responsible for completing all assignments. Homework is due when it is called for or it is considered late. Late work will be accepted for 50% credit.

Academic Assistance: Academic assistance is offered on Tuesday/Thursday morning from 7:00-7:20. The purpose of this program is to provide extra assistance for students in areas in which they may be experiencing difficulties.

Textbooks: Textbooks are the student’s responsibility. Students will be charged for lost books or damages to their books.
