The MSHSAA Board of Directors designated Waynesville High School as a MSHSAA 5-Star Leadership School.  Completing these requirements took a great deal of time, effort, team work and commitment by staff, students, and community and rewarded WHS commitment to sportsmanship, character education and citizenship.  Only twenty-five schools (approximately 3% of the MSHSAA membership) achieved this honor and designation in this inaugural year of the program.

Plus WHS 

  • Has a diverse student population of 1700 students in grades 9 through 12.
  • Enjoys a new facility constructed in 2003.
  • Operates on a 7 period schedule with classes starting at 7:30 A.M. and adjourning at 2:30 P.M. daily.
  • Uses a 4 point grading system to determine student standing and compute cumulative grade point average.
  • Offers a solid college preparatory program with a full range of academic courses to include AP courses, dual credit courses in association with Drury University, as well as career and vocational education programs.
  • Sends students to top colleges and universities, including service academies yearly.

And WHS has

  • Athletics
    • Fall Sports: football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, girls tennis, boys soccer, girls golf, and girls softball.
    • Winter Sports: boys and girls basketball, wrestling,
    • Spring Sports: baseball, girls soccer, boys and girls track and field, and boys tennis.
    • Cheerleading for all seasons.
  • A very active student government and National Honor Society chapter.
  • A very active drama program with several productions per year.
