Recommended Readings for Children:

Purdue Military Family Research Institute and the Armed Services YMCA recommend these books for children.  The list is separated by age range and deal with topics such as separation and loss, grieving and reunification

Recommended Readings for Parents:

The following are articles related to parenting during deployment, the stages of deployment, typical child behaviors and behaviors to watch out for, and information on maintaining family well-being during deployment.  There are also a number of books that are recommended by Military One Source and Purdue Military Family Research Institute.

School Teacher and Counselor Resources:

The links for this section were designed to help teachers and counselors support children with deployed parents.  One of the links is to the Local Resource Guide created by Waynesville*VISTA for the Waynesville R-VI school counselors.  In addition, we have included the links to the on-line version of the guides distributed to the school counselors, and the instructions for one of the videos also distributed to the counselors.  For both Teachers and Counselors, there are recommended readings and supplemental teaching guides.
